When we purchased the boat, it was called Encore as a musician had previously owned it. Pete and I wanted to create a name that we could call our own. Boats of this size are normally documented and banks usually require you to have it documented by the Coast Guard. We were driving up to Sandusky for the Sea Trial and if we put an offer in, we would need to have a name to apply for the financing. I was driving and Pete kept saying we need to come up with a name. Since we have a sailboat in Massachusetts called NIC (Not In Charge), we wanted to come up with a new name. We bantered around Cheri baby, Wild Thing, and a few others. But we really wanted a boat that was named for both of us. As we got closer to Sandusky, Pete was getting anxious and wanted to have a name. I’m like we met on Spring Break, let’s call it Spring Break. We both actually liked that and seemed to settle on that. Until Me being the preschool teacher for over 14 years, starting thinking about words that rhymed with spring and fling sounded good. So that’s how Spring Fling got her name. But if you ask Pete about it, he’ll tell you that he met me on Spring Break and he thought it was just going to be a week long fling. Hah! Fooled him!
