We left Mackinac Island, said goodbye to Lake Huron and entered Lake Michigan which has been dubbed, “The Washing Machine”! We headed to the town of Petoskey where we had dinner long ago with our kids when we went skiing at Boyne Highlands. Their Forest Floor Soup full of a variety of mushrooms was absolutely delicious. From Petoskey we headed to Charlevoix with its very narrow channel and a Bascule Bridge. Charlevoix was a cute little town with Mushroom houses, coffee shops, lots of unique restaurants, and Loopers! We met a lot of Loopers and were so excited! We even got to caravan with 4 other Looper boats to our next destination of Leland. A quick overnight and we were onto Frankfort. More Loopers! Yea! We biked out around the Lake, went to a Farmer’s Market, cleaned up the boat from Spider Poop (a constant battle), and had Docktails with the Looper Gang. We’ve had some long runs along the Michigan coastline and have seen some beautiful Sand Dunes all along the way. Our plan has been to cross over to the Wisconsin side of the lake to avoid the build up of the waves. Typically, the winds come from the west and as they cross the lake, the waves build and get higher the closer you get to the Michigan side. But winds are fickle and haven’t behaved like they typically do, so we are still on the Michigan side of the lake and will remain here down to Chicago.
Just look at you crazy kids! Sounds like an absolute blast!
Do you have bikes on board? Or were they rentals?
Hi Ginger, Yes we have foldable bikes that we can easily store. A lot of the loopers have electric bikes.
How amazing!!!!! Love all the pictures! Continue to be safe and soak it all up☀️

What a motley Docktails group!
Love the twin screws – churn and the nice flat seas! Good luck with arachnids droppings …
Thanks Simon! We’ve met some true blue Aussies on our trip. You and Denice need to join us at some point!
It looks like you and Pete are living the dream! Love the blog. You do a wonderful job describing the trip. If you need any help with your future looping trip, Larry and I could make ourselves available. Have a restful boating break and take care!
